In a world often inundated with challenges and uncertainties, the call for compassion and collective action echoes louder than ever. The desire to make a positive impact, to lend a helping hand where it is needed the most, is a sentiment that unites communities. It is in this spirit that AIESEC in University of Moratuwa proudly presents HOPE – an initiative dedicated to Helping Others with Purpose and Empowerment as the name itself stands for.

The pressing need to address societal gaps and uplift those who face adversities is a cornerstone of HOPE. As we navigate the complexities of modern life, it becomes imperative to recognize and respond to the plight of those who lack access to essential resources. For AIESEC in University of Moratuwa, this fueled a commitment to creating change, and this was the inception of HOPE.

In the previous editions, this initiative centered around promoting renewable energy and energy conservation with the theme ‘Switch Off.’ Nevertheless, as we approached the current edition, a realization surfaced that we could make an even more significant impact. This prompted a process of strategic rebranding. Consequently, the initiative underwent a transformation and emerged with a new identity: HOPE. This eventually turned out to be an initiative to create hope among the underprivileged youth in Sri Lanka through technological empowerment.

At the heart of HOPE lies a poignant acknowledgment of the struggles faced by school children who lack the necessary technical equipment to thrive in today’s world. This initiative aims to bridge this digital divide in a way that the impact promises to be profound and long-lasting.

As the pinnacle of HOPE, scheduled for the 30th of January, the first day of the event will witness a donation comprising computers and computer-related equipment to Panapitiya Agamathi Maha Vidyalaya in Wadduwa. This contribution is poised to be a catalyst for transformative change, opening new avenues of learning for the students who have, for too long, faced barriers to their educational journey.

The journey of HOPE doesn’t end here. It extends into an immersive knowledge-sharing session planned for the 5th of February. AIESEC in University of Moratuwa recognizes the importance of not only providing resources but also empowering the students with the skills and knowledge needed to navigate the digital landscape successfully. On the 5th of February, the school children of Panapitiya Agamathi Maha Vidyalaya will have the opportunity to engage in knowledge sessions that will help them gain knowledge while developing their soft skills.

In addition to the donation, AIESEC in University of Moratuwa has woven an exciting narrative into the fabric of HOPE – the ‘HOPE in Pixels’ photography contest. Capturing the essence of the initiative, participants were encouraged to submit photographs that reflected hope. Consequently, winners of the photography contest were selected in will be rewarded with exciting prizes soon.

HOPE has not embarked on this journey alone; rather, it has found support and collaboration with esteemed partners who share the vision of making a meaningful impact. WSO2 has joined hands with HOPE as the Silver Partner. Additionally, Ceylon Today and ChoKoLAAte have stepped in as Media Partners, playing a crucial role in spreading the message of hope far and wide.

Every heartbeat is a pixel in the portrait of this world. It is our responsibility that each of them gets the opportunity to add color and vibrance. HOPE is more than a name; it’s a promise that is about to be fulfilled. As we gear up to fulfill our promise, we are not just delivering equipment; we’re delivering a future.
