The Mirror by Siyumi Peiris
I look around the room before setting my eyes on you
The light that seemed a little dull is shedding on your details too
The curves and the scars that I’d never seen before
The strands of hair that are dying at their ends, dancing above your hips down low
The perfect line of birth marks that you never thought was special
Your lifted cheekbones that glow when you smile.
Remember when you looked down in front of me?
Remember when you couldn’t meet my eyes?
But there you are now, smiling so beautifully
And this time it’s genuine, I realize.
Who knows if this smile will still be there tomorrow
So for now I will look at you
I will capture this moment in a precious memory
Until you look at me again too.
