COVID-19 Update
- NUMBER OF CASES
- 1,604 cases reported on the 21st
- 291 Covid-19 cases reported in Colombo
- Sri Lanka received two million doses of Sinopharm vaccination, which arrived today. Sinopharm vaccine is available for all individuals aged 30 and above today, till 4.30 pm, at the Vihara Maha Devi Park. Residents in Colombo 1-5 are advised to use other centres so that this centre does not get overcrowded.
- Sinopharm vaccine will be given to all Colombo 1-15 residents and employees working in these areas, aged 30+ can get the vaccination with documented proof of residence/employment in Colombo, which is mandatory
- Health authorities predict a 4th wave of civd and the Army Commander warns off wedding clusters. People are advised to travel for essential purposes only. The relaxation of the travel restrictions does not indicate that the threat of the corona virus is eliminated. If these restrictions are misused, it could lead to the 4th wave of covid-19. And it is vital that the citizens of Sri Lanka act responsibly.
- The rate of individuals infected with Covid-19 being admitted to hospitals had risen gradually over the past weeks, with the average rate of people contracting the virus ragin from 1,400-1,500 a day.
- Outbreak of Tinea Infection
Tinea disease is a skin infection and has been identified to be caused by fungus. This skin infectious disease is spreading fast in several areas including the north central province of Sri Lanka. Women, children and men of all ages are at risk of contracting the disease. Dr Hema Weerakoon has identified the environmental factors that are affecting this infection; allergy to medicine, self-medication and community activities. Anyone infected must obtain treatment and follow proper medical guidelines for nearly 6 months to recover. It is vital that you seek treatment immediately or the infection could worsen. Dr Hema Weerakoon has also recorded that the use of steroids or drugs containing steroids could result in adverse effects in the infection.
- Postmortem results of the 16 year old girl
Senior DIG Ajith Rohana states that the telephone used by the male employee is in police custody, from which a male employee at Minister Rishan Baduideen’s residence gave a statement regarding the rape and murder of a 16 year old. The victim’s school principal and vice principal have both provided statements, regarding the case. The police are yet to collect statements from the other individuals involved.

The postmortem report of the 16 year old revealed signs of chronic vaginal penetration and severe burns. The child had been admitted to the Colombo National Hospital, suffering from critical burns that lead to her death.
The victim’s mother states that her daughter had volunteered to work as a child-maid to save the family from their debts. The teenager had spoken to her about the physical abuse she had undergone at the Badiudeen Residence, and had requested to come home, complaining that a fellow male co-worker had assaulted her with a broom. The victim had pleaded that she did not want to work at the Badiudeen Residence anymore. Her postmortem revealed that she had been raped on several occasions.
The Domestic Workers Reunion filed a complain to the government, requesting that the individuals responsible for the rape and death of the 16 year old girl be punished under criminal law.
- Sri Lanka accepts funds from India to build Sri Lanka’s first floating solar power plant.
The ministers of the power dullas Alahapperum showed their plans to have the floating solar power plant constructed in Diyawanna Lake with the assistance of a loan from the government of India. It is proposed to be constructed to met the daily electricity requirement of the parliament premises has a capacity of 1.5 mw
- The Cabinet demonstrates plans to build water villas on the island
The government plans to construct water villas in Kalpitiya to help promote tourism in Sri Lanka, as it has been identified that water residencies are highly attractive to tourists. The Sri Lankan Tourism Development Authority has acquired 1 islets in Kalpitiya and hope to construct the water villas there., to promote tourism and the island resort concept
- Covid Vaccine injected into woman twice on the same day.
An eledery woman was accidentally injected with two doses of the Moderna vaccination in the Ogastawatta vaccination center in Kandy. After getting injected with her second dose, she felt faintish and experienced other symptoms of sickness. Her husband filed a complaint regarding the situation and an investigation will be held. She was Immediately provided medical treatment after being admitted to a hospital in Peradeniya.
