I know all of us can guiltily relate to the above scenarios. The rush of getting ready to go out, dressing up for a party and indulging in some excessive skin care routines before a big event is a norm that we all follow and while its good to want to look our best, it is important to remember to be consistent with our well-being.
I know we are confined into our safe havens during lockdown where we are at home and in our primary comfort zone. However this shouldn’t be a reason as to why we should neglect self-care. It is important to have glowing skin, a balanced diet and a healthy lifestyle despite being indoors because looking after you is something you should essentially prioritise for yourself.
Make that smoothie bowl, do a 15 minute work out, jog your lane, try home made recipes for face masks and lather it on your skin, purchase a home waxing kit and experiment with it. Live every second of you feeling content with who you are and nurturing your body cus it is after all your home.
I understand that being locked up indoors takes away from the drive to actually participate in intense self-care but the minute you decide to celebrate yourself and cherish it – you will confine yourself to a lifestyle that’ll bring you immense happiness.
Having said that though, some of us truly enjoy self-care during lockdown when we actually have the time to try different things that help us grow. Be it learning a new language, or working out or popping something into the oven and dancing to our favourite music while doing the dishes or basically anything that becomes a value addition to who we are as a person.
Something that we all need to remember and accept is that there’s no right way of doing self care. There is no age old tradition that we are expected to follow when it comes to looking after ourselves. As long as you’re doing things which help you live a healthy life and living in the moment you have achieved the goal – where we go wrong is not being consistent with it. If all of us understand that our bodies are our homes, and looking after ourselves is top priority we’ll be happier and happiness is always the answer, no matter what the question is.
So cheers to more spa bookings, the smell of home made bread, improper french grammar, slightly off key guitar renditions of our favourite songs, movie marathons, 50 skips using the rope, freshly squeezed juice in the morning, making our beds, shaving our legs, smiling at the little things, losing ourselves in the smell of an old books, reliving memories through pictures and doing any activity small or big which helps us smile. Self care begins the moment you decide to be yourself, do what you love and embrace it wholeheartedly.
