APUPPET ON STRINGS
A PUPPET ON STRINGS by Fathima Ahmed
They say its a free country,
speak your mind, be bold
stand your ground
and when the unthinkable happens
you stand up and you voice
The opinion you always shut down inside you
they all object
All hell breaks loose.
How dare you do the unthinkable
Do exactly what is expected of you
Be the puppet on strings
Manipulated on all sides
Speak only what you are expected to speak of
Quell the desire to voice any opinion
It was never meant to be genuinely valued
Shove all the hopes you had
of being seen for who you were inside.
Do not believe lies some people spin
Rose coloured glasses get distorted.
Take the safer route out
Stay away from your reality
Of days when you stand your ground
Not everyone is so considerate
to keep an open mind.
Most people like to be close minded, blind
To the faults that you see.
Better to ignorant about thee.
To be called out means
to be insulted even in private
So quell the storm of opinions and values
That should only be allowed
to roam inside your never ending mind.
Leave the puppet masters
to their puppet mastering
You are but a puppet on strings
where relationships are concerned.
Nothing said or done can change that.
There is no freedom of speech.
To speak of free will is to be a control freak
