Bevan Samuel, the dashing and debonair 24 year old is a graduate of Asian International School in Colombo. He got into fitness at the age of 18 in his final year of high school, with the purpose of getting better at playing basketball, which was his main sport of interest at the time. Little did he know going to the gym would turn out to be something he was truly passionate about and he has not stopped training since! Bevan’s engaging personality makes him an inspiration for fitness enthusiasts looking to build a fitness regimen on a sustainable and methodical foundation.
You are someone that young people look to for inspiration especially in the Fitness arena. Is there a particular pathway that led you to the fitness arena?
It started back in my high school years when my basketball coach wanted us to get into the weight room to get stronger. Once I was done playing basketball for high school, I continued going to the gym consistently which I eventually found a true passion for.
You have a social media presence that is steeped in knowledge regarding workout routines etc. do You feel that fitness is an area that requires more information in general?
I’ve always been big on adding value with my content and helping people as much as I can. Fitness as a whole does have endless amounts of information but I feel it should start with the basics of knowing the importance of training, recovery & nutrition. This is not just related to fitness but for overall health & well-being too.
What makes your sessions at the Fitness Connection enriching, and are there particular workouts you look forward to?
For me it’s definitely the high end specialized equipment that FC has to offer. Personally I am someone who looks for gyms with access to a variety of machines as my workouts are based around mostly that. Apart from that the friendly professional staff and the atmosphere at the gym definitely does help me to stay on my fitness journey as well.
Any key points you would like to share on working out and some of the most important aspects that You would like to highlight?
Spreading the right knowledge with regards to training is important for building the right foundation, especially for beginners who are just starting off. With regards to fitness there are 3 main topics that need to be touched upon more & that is nutrition, recovery & training. This is the trifecta to making long term progress. The better we understand that, the easier it becomes.
What advice would you give to fitness and health enthusiasts?
My best advice would be to find what works best for you & something that you can stick to, not just in the short-term but in the long-term. Fitness is something that has helped me in so many aspects of my life and you can always take away the lessons it teaches you, and infuse this into other aspects of life.
What’s next for Bevan?
Hopefully something within the perimeters of this industry. I believe it’s a fast growing arena especially in the day & age we live in. It also gives us a platform to share knowledge & uplift one another, with truly healthy motivation, which is what I’ve always felt the desire to do.
