The goal of the Zonta Young Women in Leadership Award is to encourage young women to participate in leadership positions by recognizing a young woman’s commitment to the volunteer sector, evidence of volunteer leadership achievements and dedication to building a better world for women in girls.

Who is Eligible?

Women, aged 16-19 on 1st April 2025, studying at a secondary school, college or University in Sri Lanka or who are citizens of Sri Lanka and studying elsewhere at the time of application.

They should demonstrate evidence of the following:

❑ Active commitment to volunteerism.

❑ Experience in local government, student government, or workplace leadership (paid or unpaid).

❑ Volunteer leadership achievements.

❑ Knowledge of Zonta International and its programs.

❑ Support for Zonta International’s mission of building a better world for women and girls.

AIESEC is one of the world’s largest youth led organizations that takes pride in its goal to achieve peace fulfillment of Human Kind’s potential through its extravagant volunteering, internships and teaching exchange programmers. AIESEC at the University of Kelaniya has been supporting Sri Lankan youth with exchange opportunities since 1998.

Global Expansia 1.0 is one such a semi virtual event organized by AIESEC in University of Kelaniya that was based on the importance of Personal Branding and the influential impact of the volunteering, internships and teaching opportunities provided by AIESEC on the professional lives of youth between the ages of 18 to 30.

This incredible event took place on the 28th of September at the Mahaweli Center in Colombo, where 50 to 100 delegates actively participated.

The Personal Branding sessions of Global Expansia 1.0 were facilitated by a remarkable team of experts who shared valuable information.Mr Dilupa Pathirana, CEO of Barista Sri Lanka, executed an informative session on Personal Branding and Careers. Mr Dulinda Perera CEO of IKON Media andAdding a little twist to the event, Mr Anderson Haran Public Speaking Coach and Comedian entertained the gathering by drawing parallels between Public Speaking and Personal Branding.

Moreover, the delegates were lucky to discover the different opportunities provided by AIESEC through the experience sharing sessions led by former exchange participants who had engaged in global volunteering, internships, and teaching in captivating destinations such as India, Thailand, and Tunisia, where they experienced new customs and traditions.

The Success of Global Expansia 1.0 was determined by the support of the event sponsors, Build Mart Sri Lanka, MYSU, Envalon Studios, Metecno.

The Rotary District 3220 ‘Healing Minds Matter’ project is a collaborative initiative by the Rotary Club of Colombo Port City and the Rotary Club of Colombo Mid Town.

It has two key components which happen simultaneously.

It involves the refurbishment a 10,000 square foot area for Mental health-care at the University of Colombo. This will establish the very first Rotary Wellbeing Center for Mental Health (operated by both Rotary clubs).

The other half of the Project includes conducting awareness programs for 10,000 people – advocating for mental health and suicide prevention all across the Island.

The first in a series of planned programs for the Healing Minds Matter project was successfully concluded on 28 August 2024 igniting a light of hope in Tangalle.

The Clubs are humbled to have reached a significant milestone, positively impacting 1,500 students and teachers (in 48 hours) across seven high schools: Gatamanna Dakuna Maha Vidyalaya,Ishwaraya Kanishta Vidyalaya, Ambala Maha Vidyalaya, Vijaya Jathika Vidyalaya, Nayakawaththa Rajapaksha Kanishta Vidyalaya, Ruhunu Vijayaba Jathika Pasala, and Tangalle Balika Vidyalaya.

They are thankful to all those who supported with the first training programme – Rear Admiral Damian Fernando, Captain Chandana Pawuluge, and Lieutenant Commander Tharindu Subasinghe (for accommodation and facilitation).

Great efforts by Chalith Gallearachch (coordination of the entire event), President Rasini Bandara, Past President Numan Zarajudeen from Rotary Club of Colombo Mid Town, President Michael Jayawardana, Asst. Governor & Past President Ian Iddamalgoda and Dulika Jayamanne from Rotary Club of Colombo Port City and Mr Ranil Thilakarathne made the first session possible as mentioned above.

The AICPA and CIMA Sports Day 2024 – Powered by MAS, organised by the AICPA and CIMA Students’ Society, marked an exciting beginning to the year’s events with an exhilarating display of athletic prowess and community spirit. Spanning two days, the event was held on July 13th and 20th, drawing participants from various CIMA institutes, corporate teams, and other educational institutions.

The 2024 edition featured a diverse range of sports, including badminton, basketball, swimming, cricket, and futsal, reflecting a commitment to promoting a healthy and active lifestyle among students and professionals alike.

On July 13th, St. Joseph’s College Colombo buzzed with excitement as competitors engaged in intense matches of badminton, basketball, and swimming. The energy and enthusiasm were palpable as participants demonstrated their skills, teamwork, and sportsmanship.

The following week, on July 20th, the sporting action moved to Thurstan College Sports Complex Colombo, where cricket and futsal competitions took center stage. The grounds were vibrant with spectators and supporters, creating an atmosphere of camaraderie and encouragement.

The event was meticulously planned and executed, welcoming over 1000 attendees across both days. On the 22nd of June, SLIIT Kandy Uni, Pallekele, carried immense spirit and young enthusiasm as it hosted “Future Fusion 2024,” a groundbreaking youth empowerment event aimed at resilience building for Sri Lankan youngsters of the plantation community and beyond. Organized by AIESEC in Sri Lanka in collaboration with the Ministry of Water Supply and Estate Infrastructure Development, Future Fusion excelled at its quest to empower young minds through education, cultural exchange, skill development, and community integration.

A number of thought-provoking keynote speeches opened the event setting the tone for the day as guest attendances and insightful panel discussions by industry experts followed. Renowned racer, Mr. Dilantha Malagamuwa addressed the audience on “Inclusive Sri Lanka” through his life story. His keynote speech urged youth to champion equality and diversity, emphasizing the pivotal role young leaders play in fostering inclusivity. Following Mr. Malagamuwa, famous cricketer, Mr. Kumar Sangakkara, joined the stage virtually for a Q&A session on “Youth Leadership.” His address not only motivated the young attendees to embrace leadership roles but also elucidated the importance of integrity and resilience in achieving personal and collective goals. Keynote speaker, Mr. Nalin B. Karunaratne, director/CEO of Ceylon Biscuits Limited, spoke on shaping the future, elaborating the significance of innovation, entrepreneurship, and sustainability in shaping a prosperous future for Sri Lanka. Distinguished guest, Hon. Minister Jeevan Thondaman’s attendance as the Minister of Water Supply and Estate Infrastructure Development, showcased his leadership and advocacy towards advancing opportunities for the youth of Sri Lanka’s plantation communities. A panel discussion featuring three esteemed panelists, experts in their respective fields, Dr. Harsha Subasinghe, Founder and CEO of CodeGen, Mr. Aritha Wickramasinghe, Legal Advisor, Presidential Secretariat and Mr. Kamal Geeganage, COO of CBL Foods International Private Limited, offered practical perspectives from the corporate sector on evolving trends in employment and the skills that are increasingly in demand, delivering invaluable insights on the future of the job market and how youngsters can strive to concur it.

Throughout the conference, young attendees were given the opportunity to engage in hands-on skill development sessions tailored to increase employability. The conference provided workshops on leadership and entrepreneurship, offering practical knowledge crucial for navigating today’s complex world. The event presented youngsters with career spaces, encouraging network and professional growth.

Future Fusion 2024 concluded by transforming into a vibrant Cultural Night, where participants celebrated diversity through music and dance. District Rotaract Representative 2024-25

The Rotaract District Assembly serves as the official ceremony for the induction of the newly appointed District Rotaract Representative (DRR). This momentous occasion is traditionally marked by the “collaring” of the DRR by the Immediate Past District Rotaract Representative (IPDRR), and is often celebrated with great fanfare. The assembly also provides a platform to acknowledge the outstanding work undertaken by Rotaract clubs throughout the preceding year, culminating in a prestigious awards ceremony.

The 34th Rotaract District Assembly, held on the 6th of July at Waters Edge Hotel, proved to be a grand affair, drawing over 700 participants from across the nation. The ceremony witnessed the collaring of PHF Rtr. PP Shanel Mendis, signifying his official assumption of the role of DRR for the years 2024-25.

Beyond the official proceedings, the Rotaract District Assembly offered a valuable networking opportunity for young and aspiring Rotaractors.
