THE KING, THE CRITIC AND THE CUP OF TEA
The king, the critic and the cup of tea
There a was a king who ruled a land for 30 years.
He lived in a capital city filled with much entertainment, riches and pleasures of all kinds. Yes, all kinds.
One day a very critical member of his aristocratic (opposition) faction met with him for a breakfast meeting with governing and opposing factions.
The only thing that went down well at breakfast was the food.
He accused the king of not being focused on ruling the land. The king was more interested in enjoying the pleasures the capital offered, he accused.
The king certainly wasn’t PG 13, but he’d ruled wisely for ages. Was he going to take that in his stride?
The king asked him to do one thing.
He asked him to take a tour around the pleasure centered places in the city, accompanied by two guards.
And then he gave him a cup of tea, filled almost to the brim. And he asked the critic to take a tour around the city.
However, he instructed both guards to take their sword and without hesitation, cut down the critic if he spilt even one drop of tea onto the ground, during the entire journey.
After he came back, seemingly safe, the king asked
“what did you enjoy about the capital today?”
The critic replied
“Your majesty, I enjoyed nothing and noticed nothing, i was trying my best to make sure I did not spill a drop of tea, for my life was at stake”
The king, with a satisfied smile on his face replied
“And that is how I spend each day governing this land, with the same focus you felt”
That is focus.
